A Kmart shopper has alerted fans of the store to a ‘secret section’ of marked down goods, with people saying they had ‘no idea’ the area existed.

The Australian woman, who is from Perth, told followers of the Markdown Addicts Facebook group that she picked up a drinks trolley for $7.50 after it was relegated to the sale area.

‘Don’t be afraid to buy from your local Kmart “Soiled/Damaged/Faulty” merchandise trolley or section,’ she said.

‘Because of someone’s inability to assemble this cute drinks trolley, I got it for only $7.50 and managed to assemble it while my baby napped.’

The merchandise area, which is in different parts of the store depending on where you live, is frequently refilled with ‘broken’ returns and mismatched toys, bedding and clothing.

But, as some people have discovered, the products aren’t as ‘soiled’ as their labels would make you believe.

‘Reminds me of years and years ago I got a framed New York picture reduced because the sales person saw a scratch in the corner. I didn’t notice until I got home it was the artist’s signature,’ one woman said.

‘I got one of the huge circle mirrors for $11 because it had a black mark on it. The mark was smaller than a 5c piece and is almost unnoticeable,’ said another.

‘I got this for my daughter from my local Kmart’s markdown trolley right next to the customer service photo counter,’ another woman said, sharing a photo of a LOL Doll

‘The box was damaged and said there were only four items inside but it was complete with all eight pieces there. Always worth a look,’ she said

A third added: ‘I got a Breville slow cooker nearly two years ago… full price was $169 and it was down to $42. It had a dint on the side, we were able to fix it, and it still works perfectly fine.

‘Also I got a knife block set down to $7. It had a missing parts sign but nothing was missing in the box.’

Others have said it’s their ‘first port of call’ whenever they walk into the discount retailer, although sometimes the merchandise area is filled with ‘garbage’.

‘I love the faulty trolley. It’s the first place I go when I get a chance to have a Kmart shop. We don’t always get big discounts though,’ one lady said.

Another said: ‘Every time we walk into Kmart my partner goes “you’re going straight for the reduced section aren’t you?”

‘Damn straight I am! I got a king-sized doona less than half price as it was out of its packing and dirty. I just had to wash it.’

Some people were devastated they were only just learning about the section now, and said they will keep an eye out for the special area when they’re next in store.
