Man United are close to signing €30m-rated prolific centre-forward

Erling Haaland wants to defy the wishes of agent Mino Raiola and sign for the Red Devils. Norway international shot to prominence during the group stages of this campaign’s UCL with RB Salzburg and has scored an astonishing 28 goals in 22 matches in all tournaments this term.

Erling, the son of former Man City and Leeds United footballer Alf Inge Haaland, is represented by the Italian agent who would prefer him to join Juventus. Haaland is also said to be keen on a move to Borussia Dortmund, where first-team football would be almost guaranteed.

RB Leipzig, who could soon lose Timo Werner, represent another interested party. Man United, however, believe they have an advantage over the Haaland’s other suitors with the Norwegian manager having coached the 6ft 3in centre-forward during the formative stages of his career at Molde.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reported to have flown to Norway on Friday to speak with the 19-year-old centre-forward’s representatives and insisted he would look to build his front-line around Europe’s most talented young striker, combining his qualities with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Marcus has been in outstanding form over the last six weeks following a difficult start to the campaign. The potential arrival of the Norwegian striker would intensify the contest for places, with Mason Greenwood also pressing for a starting berth in the Norwegian manager’s Premier League starting line-up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: ‘I was a footballer here for 11 years and I can’t tell you how many centre-forwards we signed that were supposedly going to take my place in the club or the team.’
